IIFT-2011
Analysis

IIFT which was conducted this year on 25th November 2011 ha a few surprises. The first one was QA and LR sections were very easy. The number of questions was reduced to 120 from 135 as compared to the last year. Also the number of sections was 6 as compared to last year which was 4 sections test. The test was of 100 marks and the sections of QA, DI and LR had questions of 1 mark each, GK section had questions of 0.5 marks while RC and VA had questions of 0.75 marks each. The test can be summarized as follows:

DETAILED ANALYSIS

Historically IIFT looks for sectional cut-offs. As there were 6 sections and QA, and LR were relatively easier as compared to other sections, the sectional cutoff for these sections will be higher than the other sections. The overall cutoff can be 35 - 37 marks which is a bit higher than last year as QA and LR was very simple. These 2 sections were so easy that one could have easily attempted required overall cutoff in these 2 sections only with a few questions from VA section completely ignoring the other 3 sections viz. GK, RC and DI. This made the test a bit tempting towards QA and LR. So it is possible that some people actually ended up giving more time to these 2 sections ignoring other sections which can make it difficult for them to get a call for the second round. The cases of DI were as usual tough and lengthy in calculation. RCs were quite lengthy and required a good understanding before attempting the questions.

QUANTITATIVE ABILITY

No. of Qs              : 24 (1.0 marks per Q à Total Marks – 24.0 Marks)

The Quantitative section was the very easy. The questions had a lot of story part while the actual data were very simple. Also more than half of the questions had direct information and could easily be done in less than a minute each. A good time allocation strategy for this section would be around 20 minutes. There could be attempts in the range of 12 - 15 easily.

DATA INTERPRETATION

No. of Qs              : 16 (1.0 marks per Q à Total Marks – 16.0 Marks)
The graphs were very lengthy and difficult to understand. It required good amount of time for calculation without calculator. As the section was very tough, it was possible that students avoided coming to this section. So the sectional cutoff for this section is going to be very low. The attempt of around 6 questions could be a good attempt. One could have devoted 15 minutes to this section.
