With reduced number of questions and increased difficulty level, IIFT 2017 was tough to handle. General awareness (GA) section was tougher than last year. Verbal Ability (VA) section had new variety of questions. VA section had more marks per question this time. Reading Comprehension passages were lengthy (around 1000 words each). Logical reasoning (LR) questions were of one mark each and relative tougher than last year. Quantitative Aptitude (QA) questions were more or less of the same level as of last year’s IIFT. Though the Data Interpretation (DI) questions were of same difficulty level as of last year, they carries less marks per question this time.

Quantitative Ability

There were 20 questions in this section; each carried a weight age of 1 mark. Difficulty level of this section was same as compared to that of last year except few questions that required time to read. Majority of the questions were from Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry. One could have attempted around 14 questions in 30 minutes.

Data Interpretation

There were, in all, 20 questions based on five cases in this section. Each question carried a weight age of 0.75. One could have attempted 5-6 questions in 15 minutes with more than 90% accuracy. We feel that one should give less time to DI and give its time to QA and LR as it has less marks per question.

Logical Reasoning

The section has 20 questions and each question carried a weight age of 1 mark. Hence, more time should have been given to this section as compared to DI. The difficulty level was easy to moderate. One could have attempted 15-16 questions in 25 minutes.

General Awareness

There were 18 questions in this section; each carrying 0.5 mark. The questions were time consuming and a good mix of static and dynamic. One could have attempted 6 questions easily. As compared to last year, the section was high on difficulty level.

Verbal Ability

The VA section this time was quite difficult and had more marks per question. There were some questions on clauses and phrases. Though these questions were not difficult, they still require understanding. One should give at least 20 minutes to this section. A good candidate would attempt around 15 questions.

Reading Comprehension

There were 16 questions on RC divided equally among four passages. The RCs were big (1000 to 1200). Though most of the questions were direct, few questions were close. Overall this section was length and difficult because of the size of the passages. One should give at least 20 minutes to this section. A good candidate would attempt around 10 questions.

Overall a score of 50 to 55 marks will give good percentile this time. Last time a score of 60 fetched around 99 percentile, this time story will be different. We have uploaded the questions along with detailed solutions, please go through them also…

Best Wishes!
